Bay County was recently added to the list of Florida counties with confirmed cases of the Zika virus, which can be transmitted by infected mosquitoes. In an effort to combat mosquito populations in Bay County, beginning Aug. 15, the Waste to Energy facility will accept up to 10 used tires per household per day at no charge to residents.

Waste Amnesty Days Sept. 30 and Oct. 1Bay County's biannual Waste Amnesty Days will be Friday. Sept. 30 and Saturday Oct. 1 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Steelfield Landfill located at 11411 Landfill Road in West Bay, off State 79.

Bay County residents may drop off their yard debris, household garbage and hazardous waste at no charge and are encouraged to bring recyclable materials. This event is open to Bay County residents only.

Budget meetings/workshops set

Budget meetings/workshops set The Bay County Board of County Commissioners will hold its final two budget meetings at 5:01 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8 and 5:01 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 20 in the Commission Chambers of the Bay County Government Center, located at 840 W. 11th St., Panama City, FL. The board will discuss the proposed Fiscal Year 2017 budget.
