At 10 a.m. on Monday, May 30 the Bay County Veterans Council and the Bay County Board of County Commissioners will host the annual Memorial Day observance at Kent Forest Lawn Cemetery, located at 2403 Harrison Ave., Panama City.

Laird Park Road to close temporarily

Laird Park Road to close temporarilyA construction project to install a drinking water pipeline under the Intracoastal Waterway parallel to the State Road 79 Bridge in Bay County will cause road closures on Laird Park Road and affect access to a nearby boat ramp.

A portion of Laird Park Road between Memorial Circle and Boondocks Restaurant will be closed from June 1 through Sept. 1.

Traffic will be detoured around the construction site via Memorial Circle to the access road of the B.V. Buchanan Park Boat Ramp. A temporary roadway will be constructed connecting the park to Bayview Circle. Boat ramp access and parking may be limited due to construction activities.

Co-op to offer Butterfly Gardening Workshop The UF/IFAS Extension Bay County Office, located at 2728 E. 14th St., Panama City, will host a free Butterfly Gardening Workshop from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 4.
This workshop will include information about the life cycle of butterflies, creating and maintaining a butterfly garden, and a visit to an on-site demonstration garden. Participants are asked to pre-register by calling 850-784-6105 or emailing bay@ifas.ufl.edu

2016 hurricane season predictions released

2016 hurricane season predictions released The 2016 Atlantic hurricane season forecast released recently from Colorado State University calls for the number of named storms and hurricanes to be near historical averages.

A total of 12 named storms, five hurricanes and two major hurricane are expected this season, according to the forecast prepared by CSU, which is headed by Dr. Phil Klotzbach in consultation with long-time hurricane expert Dr. William Gray.
