Prevent Landfill Fires - Do NOT throw your lithium-ion batteries in the garbage!

Every year more than 200 fires are reported at waste facilities across the country as a result of lithium-ion batteries being improperly disposed of in household garbage.  Lithium batteries are often found in cell phones, laptops, tablets, and other personal electronics.  They are also found in e-scooter and e-bikes.  These batteries can produce a lot of toxic gas, create explosive environments, and are very difficult to extinguish.

Bay County residents can bring their lithium batteries to the HHW (Household Hazardous Waste) Facility at Steelfield Landfill, located at 11411 Landfill Rd. Panama City Beach, FL  32413. You can contact the facility at (850) 236-2212. There is no charge for residents to dispose of hazardous waste.
