Bay County Fire-Rescue, together with the Bay County Sheriff's Department, ensures the safety of those visiting and enjoying the beach waterfronts on unincorporated Bay County. In 2024 Bay County Fire-Rescue established a full-time capability for Beach and Surf Rescue bureau through the direction and support of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), in cooperation with the Tourism Development Council (TDC).

One of the most important functions of the Beach and Surf Rescue bureau is ensuring the public remains informed about current water conditions and dangers. One of the ways this function is performed is through the displaying of flags along the beachfront. Water conditions can change rapidly, and the public is asked to immediately comply with the instructions of Surf Rescue Specialist and Sheriff Deputies.
